The Raven Project
Summary. An in-house programme to develop a service rifle and cartridge for the Organisation's own use. Suspended in 2031. Dormant.
- The Raven Project was established to give the Organisation a rifle of its own design, chambered for a 6.8 mm cartridge also developed in-house, rather than relying on weapons supplied by member states.
- The requirement arose from an assessment that standard service calibres X1.
- Design and testing were carried out by X2 at X4.
- By 2031 the programme had produced working prototypes. Testing was incomplete.
- Funding was withdrawn in 2031. The outbreak of the Static War was the immediate cause. The review that followed also found that the Organisation's mandate under its Charter (A47/ORG/1947-001) was to observe, record and prepare, and did not extend to an armed capability. No present need for one was accepted.
- Status: dormant. The case has not been closed.
Registrar's note: The prototypes and tooling remain in storage. They have been inventoried twice. Nobody has asked for them.
